wonderful story about love and family
This book is a great find and a wonderful story about love and family formation. This book follows one girl's heartwarming, fascinating journey from China to America into the arms and life of her loving mom and extended family. Lighthearted and touching, the story is narrated by Rain, a six year old Chinese-American adopted girl. I'm looking forward to reading what is in store for Rain and her friends next!

Family Business Sourcebook II
Published in Hardcover by Bussiness Owner Resources (February, 1996)
Authors: Joseph H. Astrachen, John L. Ward, Craig E. Aronoff, and Joseph H. Astrachan
Average review score:

Great compilation of short articles
This book is a great compilation of the various topics associated with family businesses. It is written in short article form, making it especially useful as a quick reference guide to very specific issues.

The issues addressed can be either very general (like what is a family business and general statistics on them), to very specific (like estate planning, succession, board recruitment, conflict resolution). The authors also address the topic from different perspectives; there are chapters on people entering family businesses (family members and non family members), on consultants to fmaily businesses, on spouses of family business members, on investors in family businesses, and the expected focus on family managers in family businesses.

I have not seen a better compilation of topics. Despite the fact that it is a compilation, all topics are addressed with enough depth to make it sufficient reading on any individual topic of family business.

A Feast of Creatures: Anglo-Saxon Riddle Songs
Published in Paperback by University of Pennsylvania Press (September, 1982)
Author: Craig Williamson
Average review score:

If You're Riddle-Smitten
The word "riddle" in this title doesn't refer to the kind of riddles that ask you what's black and white and red/read all over. Instead, these Anglo-Saxon riddles open doors into the idea of metaphor in general - how one object reflects or metamorphosizes into another. Williamson writes beautifully about these things. Many of the English language's greatest poets and intellectuals have been fascinated by riddles - Richard Wilbur, W.H. Auden, Sigmund Freud, the list is long. Take a look at some of the roots of the riddle in Anglo-Saxon culture. Then fall into Roman riddles & Greek riddles and koans and Yiddish riddles and..........

Financial and Accounting Management for Magazine Publishers
Published in Paperback by Cowles Business Media (January, 1993)
Author: Peter M. Craig
Average review score:

The best book available on this intricate subject.
Peter Craig's book on Accounting and Finance for Magazines is the best (and I believe ONLY) book available on this subject. Yet it is of vital importance for any publisher who receives subscription income. Most accountants do not realize that subscription income is DIFFERENT!!! And neither do most CPA's and auditors. With this book you can show how it is SUPPOSED to be handled.

Fishers at Work, Workers at Sea: A Puerto Rican Journey Through Labor and Refuge
Published in Hardcover by Temple Univ Press (February, 2002)
Authors: David Craig Griffith and Manuel Valdes Pizzini
Average review score:

Fishers at Work, Workers at Sea.
This book represents a twenty plus years journey of two meticulous social scientists through documents of marine anthropology, direct observations of coastal dwellers in the Caribbean and Eastern United States, the life histories of artisan fisherman and the history of Puerto Rico. The authors place the traditional, ancient occupation of fishing within the context of modern globalization to make clear how modern national and international economic trends affect individuals in terms of labor, community structure and family relations.

Griffith and Valdés Pizzini frame their field observations within an exhaustive review of marine and coastal research studies as well as allusions to the writings of Gabriel García Márquez and Octavio Paz. The use of this resource evokes in the reader emotions that favor identification with the book and with the subjects whose life histories are used to document the book.

The authors reflect a detailed knowledge of Puerto Rico’s coastal space, fisher family cycles, labor turnovers and fishing techniques which they use in a wider context to make comparisons with other Caribbean Islands and the U. S. Coastal environments. The field observations unmask the role of women in what they call “the entire social universe that is controlled and governed by women in fisher domestic circles.” The book presents the government efforts to organize fishers and describes the adjustments that they make according to their own circumstances and the external factors affecting them.

The dynamics of coastal affairs and the diversity of forces impinging upon fishing reveal throughout the book the multiple conflicts that exist in the sea fronts of Puerto Rico and most coastal areas of the world. Activities and social sectors that demand more space for development, recreation, business and international trade covet the finite nature of the coastal line.

Applied professionals and academicians should read this book. Managers of coastal affairs and policy makers could also acquire the needed perspective for understanding the economic interests and social trends affecting development of the coastal sector, its resources, communities and people. Academically speaking the book is a required reading in the areas of sociology, marine anthropology, labor relations and social change. No scholar interested in the Caribbean should miss reading this enlightening book.

Fishing Fame! How to Catch a World Record Fish
Published in Paperback by International Marine/Ragged Mountain Press (25 February, 1999)
Author: Jeanne Craig
Average review score:

THE premier guide on how to catch a World Record fish!
In "Fishing Fame", Jeanne Craig has obviously done her homework. Rather than preaching from her own soapbox on what to do and not to do, Craig interviewed hundreds of anglers who already hold world records in everything from bluefish to blue marlins. It's light reading, but it's also packed with hands-on, how-to tips and techniques the pros use to land the big ones. Basically, Fishing Fame has done all your homework for you. Now all you have to do is get out there and wet a line. As a matter of fact, you might as well bring the book and bone up in the fighting chair while you're waiting for your next big hookup.

The Flavors of Home: A Guide to Wild Edible Plants of the San Francisco Bay Area
Published in Paperback by Heyday Books (November, 1990)
Authors: Margit Roos-Collins and Rose Craig
Average review score:

A Wonderful Guide to Edible Plantlife!
"The Flavors of Home" is a highly readable and well-illustrated account of the variety and richness of edible plants in the San Francisco Bay Area. Before reading it, I could never have imagined that an urban realm of some 6 million people would house such a rich supply of edibles (and a surprising abundance in our own backyards!)

Ms. Roos-Collins thoughtfully informs you of the types and usages of local plantlife, provides recipes, and warns you where danger lurks. The hand-drawn illustrations by Rose Craig are excellent.

I highly recommend this wonderful resource to anyone wanting to know more about the variety and seasonal availability of edible foliage in the Bay Area.
